Monday Missions

Baby steps to real food and natural living, one Monday at a time.

Part of the mission of Kitchen Stewardship is to continuously be making small changes to work toward the goal of truly being a good steward of all four:

  • time
  • nutrition
  • environment
  • budget

Kitchen Stewardship’s Monday Missions are small challenges that will help rookies to healthy living find their way without stressing out or giving up!

Understanding Levels of Commitment

Beginner Baby Steps: This is a small change that can usually be made without buying anything new, making a huge change in routine, or even thinking something through very hard. If you’re low on energy or don’t like changes, accept a Baby Step.

Mid Range Making Strides: You may have to put some thought into this level of commitment; you may need to forage for a resource or item in your home. You might want to think about this level for a few days and gear up mentally before trying it. Bravo for accepting the challenge of Making Strides!

Advanced Leap of Faith: These are the big dogs, the missions that take some research, some multi-step processes, or a rather major change in routine. Don’t be afraid of a Leap of Faith, but at some point God may call you to change something drastic in your kitchen. I’ll show you how!

Monday Mission: Pack Reusable Containers for Restaurant Leftovers

Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to pack reusable containers to bring to restaurants or cafeterias instead of bringing home Styrofoam take-out containers or other disposables. Get up from your computer right now and do it. That’s right. Stand up, grab a few cheap plastic containers that will survive a few weeks in

Monday Mission: Got Meat? (Where does your meat come from?)

Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to learn about where your meat comes from. Perhaps you already know everything about your meat. Perhaps you’ve watched Food, Inc. and seek out local, grassfed or pastured, organic meats. Your job, then, is to find the balance. Keep on reading. This week we’re talking about CAFOs,

Monday Mission: Learn About Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance

I continue to run into people, both online and in real life, who have celiac disease or cannot handle gluten, including an elderly neighbor who was just diagnosed for the first time. This Monday Mission topic was confirmed when I heard Elisabeth Hasselbeck, host of The View and former Survivor contestant, describe how she was

Monday Mission: Bake Homemade Bread (or Grind Your Own Wheat)

Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to bake some homemade bread this week. If you’re already well-versed in the art of bread baking, it’s time to consider grinding your own flour. I’ve felt a little bogged down by all this conflicting, sometimes depressing research on soaking grains. It’s time for a happy week
